Blessings
It’s in abundance
We are blessed and forgiven
Mistakes we make, forgotten
If we are careful not to ask
Rewards for our given task
It is straightforward and simple
Time is there, it is ample
But we keep asking for more
No wonder we’re shown the door
There will be a reprimand
For our incessant demand
That our desires are spared
We are helplessly ensnared
We can never roam free
There is always the three
Us, the mind, and its master
The bond is tight, when we’re after
Fame, glory and just rewards
We pray they come in hordes
Apportioning efforts accordingly
Culling selflessness surgically
Selflessness is now such a rarity
It secures our name for posterity
But the mind keeps a tight vigil
Not allowing us to show even a little
Working without seeking a reward
Unknowingly we are pulled toward
The source of all our blessings
No power can cut those strings
