Friends and enemies.
There is one certainty
There is one certainty
Between friendship or enmity
In our thoughts, they reside
To both, we’re equally tied
Enmity may be taught
Friendship can’t be bought
They keep the mind occupied
It is where most of us reside
Our friends and enemies
They occupy our energies
Not letting us run free
Who will be the referee?
Stepping aside, from the mind
Awareness will be equally kind
To both friends and enemies
Neutral to their memories
Enemies have a lesson to teach
Facing them, the tune of speech
Determines if we’ve learned
That bridges shouldn’t be burned
Friends are helpful and comforting
They’re tested when we’re suffering
Will they stay by our side or leave?
In such times, they can’t deceive
To treat friends and enemies equally
Awareness must run ceaselessly
As do the mind and thoughts
They don’t have to call all the shots
