There is much to be had

There’s much joy to be had
In each instance, if we are glad
To be alive and breathing
Instead, the mind is seething

Seeing desires pile up
The mind works to disrupt
Experience of joy in little things
A chance, everyday life brings

Such opportunities may not return
We’re missing, when it’s their turn
When we enjoy without a question
The mind’s free of congestion

A testing and a proving ground
To see if senses run us aground
Temptations are hard to resist
In secret, we have a tryst

Thoughts provide a screen
As we slip into our routine
Of enjoying grosser pleasures
There aren’t many dissenters

Towards the senses, we’re devout
Thoughts say, this is what life’s about
But that enjoyment is a sample
Real joy comes when we’re simple

When we are innocent every instant
Embracing life, not being distant
The joy that comes is unparalleled
Lesser desires will have to be felled
