It isn’t ours to renounce

In doing so we denounce

The world, it feeds

Provides for our needs

When gratitude we renounce

The ego will surely pounce

Into the world, it will lead

Tempting us through greed

Compassion, we renounce

It does not cost us an ounce

Selfishness begins to flower

The world will then sour

The ego we should renounce

So the mind cannot announce

Worldly achievement and fame

For the renouncer has no name
