It takes courage to cross

The sea of uncertain thoughts
It takes courage to cross
The boat is always ready
Waiting for the head to steady

There’s much outer interaction
And narrow inner reflection
For balance to be restored
Thoughts will have to be poured

They need us hands-on
We can’t pass the baton
Thoughts will deny access
Unless we stay abreast

Thoughts hold the keys
They put the squeeze
Theirs isn’t the only option
We must tread with caution

It’s slippery on their turf
At times, it is rough surf
So much effort’s expended
Dangerous to leave unattended

To journey in the dark
Alertness must be on the mark
Currents are unchartered
The wrong kind can’t be fostered

The sea of uncertain thoughts
Once we are safely across
The journey then begins
Into freedom without strings
