The River of Happiness
It flows within
We drink from an expanding lake
Of energies, hoping to slake
The thirst of the lost generations
Of thoughts, and their expectations
A thirst that may never be satisfied
As time lessens, urgency is magnified
The lake of the mind cannot easily settle
Our involvement with it becomes total
The river of happiness flows elsewhere
Not many are willing to travel there
We’re told the waters are cold
Coddled by the mind’s warmth, we’re sold
The mind’s network of hidden streams
Is kept filled with promising dreams
We freely drink from it without fear
Holding hopes and aspirations near
The river of happiness is without a name
Just a few drops, and we proclaim
The thirst’s fulfilled, but time laughs
Until we’re over the mind’s peaks and troughs
The nature of happiness the mind brings
It is fully dependent on people and things
Aging and changing, nature’s not constant
Our optimism for the lasting is buoyant
The premise of the mind’s longevity
Is our ignorance of the state of neutrality
The mind is as confining as a lake
Its claim as the source of happiness is fake
A beautiful lake is pleasing to the eyes
Reflecting the cloudless blue skies
In its waters lurk danger and disease
No way to tell, unless there’s expertise
We dive into the mind's lake, taking a risk
The change that it brings upon us is brisk
We become the very waters we drink
Connected through energy, the hidden link
Thoughts can’t be blamed, they’re mirrors
We are invested in their whispers
They spread rumors, we believe as true
Muddying the waters of our world view
Sunk deep within the mind’s lake
A place that is dark and opaque
Lies the truth, it’s depth is unknown
Thankfully it is there and has not flown
We are swimming in the depths of ordeals
Until the mind dries, and reveals
The thread of connectivity to the endless
The river of happiness, leads to the boundless
A telltale sign, every drop makes us sing
Imagine reaching the perennial spring
From which flows the river of happiness
But first, we must wash away sleepiness
The cleansing stream of awareness
Turns the mind towards completeness
Setting a lake full of energies free
Happiness will flow, it is a guarantee
