What bees teach us

A bee knows the true flavor of honey
It’s a gift that can’t be bought with money
Taste and smell cannot be borrowed
Whatever we have, free use is allowed

By neglecting the gifts we have
Happiness, we more than halve
By giving up one thought, to offer thanks
We rise many fold, in the heart’s ranks

The mind grades happiness by levels
Is never steady, it continually swivels
Using the eyes to help it look outwards
Making it difficult to keep attention inwards

It’s unfair that the senses shoulder all blame
When it is us who seek wealth and fame
The honey we are after is artificial
Money keeps our awareness superficial

Unlike a bee that returns to its hive
We stay away, rarely turning back to arrive
Unknowingly we have long left our center
Spiritual yearning is, attempting to reenter

Entry cannot be denied, it is our home
But it is so fascinating to seek and roam
